What to do with the blog?

Do we turn it into a movie review sight?

The first Elizabeth was way better than the second Elizabeth - even though both movies starred the SAME lady and the second movie had Clive Owen, who is hot (This is the most true sentence I have ever written.)

**********************************************************************************

Do we post about our feelings and stuff?

I was shopping with a friend last week and we were in the dreaded meatpacking district, land of entitled European 24 year old girls with Daddy’s Black Amex. We were both offended by the way these kids (”those kids?” lord, I’ve become THAT lady) treated waitresses, shop girls, cabbies. I mean the invincibility that these damn kids emminated was just infuriating. They had no idea how lucky they were, they’re safe, they’ve never looked down the barrel of a proverbial gun…not like Jack.

My friend had herself lived through some pretty traumatic experiences in the past year and I looked her and quietly said, without thinking, “they don’t know, do they? I mean, it’s not like bad shit ever happened to them.” And I wasn’t comparing our bad years, it was more that we had both lived through something we were completely unprepared for and we’re still dealing with it. Those kids (okay, I’ll own it), nothing bad had ever happened to them, and maybe if they’re really lucky it never will. I was envious of their obliviousness, I was like that once (minus the Black Amex of course.)

**********************************************************************************

Or do we just keep on Mommy/Daddy blogging for posterity?

Because today the boy got his second haircut and had lunch at Jackson Hole. Not one teton joke was made all day.

***********************************************************************************

I’ve been feeling a bit split between boy blogging and other stuff and that has clearly showed in the lack of postings and/or posting quality. My middle name should have been ambivalence…

There really are only two ways to get me to run and jump and scream like a girl. One is to dangle beautiful jewelry over my head, the other is to introduce a non domesticated rodent.

Yesterday, due to the Tornado, and the subway shutdown. We both worked from home. When I say “worked” I mean, Arch worked and Jack and I rocked out, did some physical therapy, tried to eat some tater tots (unsuccessfully I might add) and napped. During one of Jack’s naps I was sitting quietly on the couch, computing, when out of the corner of my eye I spied a Grey little BEAST. I promptly, ran, jumped on the bed, and screamed like a girl.

Arch laughed. It was awesome to have my fear taken so seriously…

I suspect that the mice have invaded because the smell of Hollis has vacated. I also think they have invaded because Jack is not known for putting cheerios in his mouth; rather, he’d prefer to sprinkle them on the floor. Lovely little mousy lunch for all.

It’s weird that I am this freaked out by mice. We had a lot of Gerbils and Hamsters and Frogs and Lizards and Snakes etc growing up. My Gerbils were creatively named, including Kira and Jen and the Gerbil that tried to swallow my little brother’s pinky who I believe I called Otis. I did “accidentally” feed Jen the Gerbil, to my cat, Janet.

I came from a family that loved animals (despite evidence to the contrary, sorry Jen!) We had a very robust pet cemetery in our backyard and I learned early that pets die and they usually do it when you’re least prepared to deal with it. As I watch my husband struggle with the metaphorical loss of Hollis (his first real pet)*, I wonder how Jack will deal with his very first pet going to that dog park in the sky.

*Grieving Hollis has not gotten Arch off the hook with the Mouse killing. There is a scary amount of glue traps in our apartment right now.

Yesterday my son collapsed from exhaustion at 7:24 pm.

He was very highly scheduled:

3:00 AM – wake up and cry for a bit. End up in bed with Mom & Dad. Proceed to turn horizontal to the two of them, making a giant “H” shape in bed.
7:00 AM – wake up again. Shake the stupid HabaToy thing so hard it hits mom in the head and wakes her up. Doze a little more.
8:30 AM – breakfast of yummy yogurt, 2 cheerios and a bottle. Oh and the discovery of a new tooth. Ouch.
10:30 AM – nap for less than 30 minutes.
11:30 – lunch. Steamed, non-pureed carrots…not a fan.
12:15 PM – 1st MUSIC CLASS with Mom. Totally fascinated with his classmates, Oliver and Jake.
1:15 PM – pass out in the stroller on the way home from music class. Nap for at least 1 hour.
4:00 PM – occupational therapy – work on Peek-a-boo (rough life this kid has).
5:00 PM – speech and feeding evaluation. Passed with flying colors, scored a 95 out of 110 in social skills and an 89 out of 110 in verbal skills.
5:30 PM – dinner of cheerios, pureed rice & beans and a bottle.
6:30 PM – bath time with dad and a little intro to Swimming a la Arch.
7:24 PM – pass out totally in front of guests.

We’re adding underwater basket weaving to his schedule next week.
