The New Rocking Horse

Wow. Jack got a real wooden horse for the holidays this year! It was a gift from Great Aunt Ellen and Great Uncle Will… although, I suspect Great Aunt Nancy may have participated.

But, no matter how it got here, its pretty damn cool and Jack likes it a lot.

Here’s proof:

    Dear Fellows,
Going back a few issues, I vote for NYC. Fuck suburbia. Get your kid a membership to the Metropolital and let him play hide and seek, the let him write about it his freshman year of college. The most interesting people are raised in NYC. My personal experience is avoid the State, the County, the City in re kids needing any kind of help. Get over that, and enjoy the City. If need be, board him at my house for high school–a wonderful school, The Marin School, with soul and mind. Or ship him off to the Thacher School in CA–you get a horse with your diploma–”there is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of the child.” Or we could swap housing for a few years–Miill Valley is a great place to raise a kid, and I could use a few years of the Blue Note etc. Back to kids, the only help–real help and insight–came from private paid-for amazing advise. Otherwise, it was bullshsit. Roger, my son, struggled with the whole system, as I did, and nothing good came of it. Maybe NY is better than CA–Vermont is the only good possible school system–do you really want that? Roger’s last comment (he has a visual impariment) about the public system is that “they’re a bunch of clowns.”

In any case, merry holidays: I enjoyed a good rocking and laughing Jack–and good wishes for where ever you land, in an elevator or fenced yard, keep laughing and rocking, and send it all my way.
